Gov. Susana Martinez this morning signed the 204-page capital outlay bill that pays for more than $200 million in brick-and-mortar projects across the state. There are a few line-item vetoes scattered throughout the bill itself. You can see them here, along with her message and the entire 204-page bill, which she marked up with her veto pen.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Council Service has posted two charts showing which projects the governor vetoed by county and by agency.
Interesting to read the Gov’s line item vetoes in the original bill. She turned down over $500K in tribal reservation projects, possibly to avoid temptation to corruption, or out of respect for tribal sovereignty? The most intriguing vetoes were 23 strikes of funding for musical instruments and band equipment in various schools. Band alumni and wannabes, rise up and protest! Trip – the bill itself with SM’s handwritten line item vetos is missing a number of pages, like p16 etc – I stopped checking after about p 25 because of the missing page issue. AND thanks! for doing this. I’m amazed at the governor’s careful, detail oriented and often petty work.
