NMID’s letter to lawmakers on capital outlay project disclosure

Print More

New Mexico In Depth is asking all current legislators and some former lawmakers to reveal infrastructure projects they’ve funded in capital outlay bills and how much state money they’ve allocated to those projects.

We believe the public deserves more detail about projects their legislators are funding, and will provide that information when it becomes available.

NMID Executive Director Trip Jennings sent the following email to legislators:

Dear New Mexico Lawmaker,

This year, New Mexico In Depth is focusing on how capital outlay funding is allocated in our state. We’ve written several stories along with our partners, the Las Cruces Sun-News, The Daily Times in Farmington and the Taos News

We’ve written several stories and created a searchable database of projects.

Now we’re asking for your help.

When we asked for allocations to projects via individual lawmakers, we received this letter from Legislative Council Service denying that portion of the request.

But we understand you could give the LCS permission to provide that information to New Mexico In Depth.

We’d like you to share that information with New Mexico In Depth and, by extension, with all New Mexicans.

Please email Legislative Council Service staff giving your permission, and cc me on the email.

If you have questions about this request, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Trip Jennings
