Congratulations to our own Sandra Fish.
She’s won a Best in Government Award from Common Cause New Mexico and will be honored in early December with several other recipients.
In an announcement posted earlier today the organization cited Fish for “making campaign finance information accessible and understandable to ordinary citizens during this election year.” You can check out her work here.
Fish, who is a data journalist, has used her skills since 2014 to help New Mexicans better understand the flow and influence of money in politics. She also was key in the creation of The Openness Project, a joint effort by NMID and Datamade, a Chicago-based civic technology company.
The Openness Project, which premiered last month, is an easy-to-use web portal that converted the New Mexico Secretary of State’s entire campaign finance database into visualizations and charts, and provided a mechanism to easily search campaign finance data for the public and other journalists.
